Swierski earns tops defensive honors

Niagara County Community College's Jocelyn Swierski was named Region III Co-Defensive Player of the Year at this past weekend's Region III Championships. Swierski, a 5-foot-3 freshman libero, shared the award with Natalie Ruhlmann of Erie Community College.

Swierski, who was also an All-Western New York Athletic Conference selection, finished with a team-high 206 digs. She added 16 service aces and 14 kills for NCCC, which finished with a 2-13 record.

Finger Lakes Community College and SUNY Broome were crowned regional champions at the event. Aurora Davis of Erie Community College was Player of the Year and Ashleen Speen of SUNY Broome was Coach of the Year.
