Spikers win conference opener

Niagara County Community College opened its Western New York Athletic Conference slate with a five-set victory over visiting rival Monroe Community College on Thursday night. The scores were 15-25, 25-13, 13-25, 25-22 and 15-12 in favor of the Thunderwolves, who improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in WNYAC play.

NCCC freshman Camri King had a strong all-around outing in the win, finishing with 10 kills, 16 assists, six service aces and six total blocks. Classmate Maggie Monachino had five kills, 14 assists and seven aces, while freshman Lilah Frerichs put down seven kills.

Also for N-Trip, which recorded 25 service aces as a team, freshman Julianna Levesque had seven digs and four kills and fellow frosh Allison Farley added five aces.

The T-Wolves have a quick turnaround as they host a series of pod matches beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Opponents include SUNY Adirondack and Hudson Valley Community College.
