SUNY Niagara wins 6th straight regional title

The SUNY Niagara women's basketball program won its sixth consecutive Region III Division II championship this past weekend. The Thunderwolves improved to 27-2 overall as they head into Saturday's East A District championship tilt vs. Union College (3 p.m. at Kean University).

SUNY Niagara 102, Jamestown CC 65 (Championship)

Sophomore Faith Alessandra had 22 points and seven rebounds as the T-Wolves canned 12 3-pointers on their way to the win. Freshman Nadara O'Dell added 15 points and four rebounds and classmate Rachel Kamrowski netted 14 points.

Also for N-Trip, which held a 60-35 edge on the glass, sophomore Tessa Schuey finished with 12 points, four assists and four boards and freshman Casey Mahony notched 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

SUNY Niagara 126, SUNY Erie 37 (Semifinals)

Alessandra had 20 points and four assists and O'Dell added 17 points and eight rebounds in the lopsided victory. Freshman Makayla Thomas finished with 15 points, six steals and five boards and classmate Krystal Smith had 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.

N-Trip also got 13 points and five rebounds from freshman Anaya Smith along with 10 points from freshman Rylee VanNostrand.

At the conclusion of the tournament, the following awards were handed out:

Makayla Thomas: All-Tournament

Nadara O'Dell: All-Tournament
