T-Wolves lose in District semifinal

SUNY Niagara's first postseason appearance since 2021 was short-lived as it dropped a 9-0 decision to top-seeded Mohawk Valley Community College in NJCAA North A District semifinal action on Tuesday night at Utica University. The No. 8 Thunderwolves finish the season 4-6-0 overall, while the nationally-ranked Hawks improve to 8-1-2 and advance to the District championship this weekend.

The host Hawks struck first with a penalty kick in the opening minutes. They would tack on two more goals to take a 3-0 lead into intermission. The depth, speed and skill of the veteran MVCC roster would take over in the second stanza, putting an end to one of SUNY Niagara's strongest seasons in recent memory.

The Thunderwolves had just two sophomores - Cassidy Bauer and Rylee VanNostrand - on their roster this fall. VanNostrand had a team-high six goals, while freshman Samantha Furan finished with a team-best 14 points. Freshman goalkeeper Alexandria Szratter made over 75 saves.
