SUNY Niagara spikers earn first win

SUNY Niagara had its best offensive output of the young season en route to its first Region III victory on Saturday morning at the Erie Community College pod. The Thunderwolves are now 1-7 overall and 1-5 in regional play. They return to action at 6 p.m. Thursday with a conference tilt at Jamestown Community College. 

SUNY Niagara 3, Monroe CC 0

The Thunderwolves notched 26 kills and 11 service aces in the 25-23, 25-17, 25-17 victory. Just 16 days ago, the Tribunes beat SUNY Niagara in straight sets. On this day, though, freshman Cait Cliffe led the way with 12 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Juliana Levesque stuffed the stat sheet with five kills, four aces and 11 digs. Freshman Myelle Bronaugh added five kills and two blocks, classmate Ava Gaudy had 26 assists and four digs and fellow frosh Lydia Tetrault chipped in with eight digs and three aces.

Finger Lakes CC 3, SUNY Niagara 0

Levesque and Cliffe split six kills in the straight-set loss to the nationally-ranked Lakers. The scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 in favor of FLCC. Levesque added 14 digs, Cliffe had seven digs and Gaudy finished with 11 assists and five digs.
